Built in 1930, the renovated Historic Tapoco Lodge amid the Great Smoky Mountains and Nantahala National Forest is nestled along the Cheoah River in the heart of Appalachia. The mountain retreat's cozy rooms feature locally sourced wood walls, floors, and furniture. The property is located off the 11-mile (18 kilometers) Tail of the Dragon, or U.S. 129, which features 318 curves. Tapoco Tavern and Cheoah Dining Room are located on-site. Guests can go hiking, canoeing, rafting, kayaking, and biking nearby. The property considers itself an adventuary, where adventure and sanctuary meet.
